Candidate Guidance

As you know, the Appraisal Institute has announced a new strategic vision and is moving from a professional association business model to a professional society business model by 2016. The program is set to be fully implemented by January 1, 2013, with the Appraisal Institute to include designated members, Candidates for Designation, Practicing Affiliates and Affiliates. The model will emphasize Designated members and those seeking designation. Current State Certified Associate members (or equivalent) must choose to be a Candidate or a Practicing Affiliate. Current Associate members not yet certified may become practicing affiliates. Dedicated advisors, most likely from local chapters, will help Candidates on their journey to designation, with additional support from our chapter. Structured timelines with milestones will be set to help keep you on track.

The Maryland Chapter has 35 Candidates signed up for the Candidates for Designation program. The chapter is excited to have so many members committed to getting designated. So far, we have 4 advisors signed up.

If you are already a designated member, WE NEED YOU! MAI ‘s advise MAI candidates and same for SRA’s. There is an orientation on the national AI website – just click into Candidate for Designation and then Advisor. It takes about an hour. Advisors need to have at least quarterly contact, with a log we are required to keep.

Basically, an advisor is to help set up a plan with the candidate and provide encouragement through the process. If there are questions, the candidate is to contact national at admissions@appraisalinstitute.org. We would like to have more advisors within the Chapter. Please contact Gary or Carol if you have any questions.
